The trip to Cathedral Gorge State Park at the eastern central part of Nevada was made in the early part of October of 2009. We started from Las Vegas on I-15 North, turned into US-93 North at Exit 64, and drove another 142 miles to the junction with Route 319. Panaca is just east of the junction along Route 319. Cathedral Gorge State Park is a short distance north of the junction along US-93. We first went to the visitor center to pay $7 day use fee. The permit allows holder to enter any Nevada State Park during the day, but considering the isolated location of Cathedral Gorge State Park, to visit other state parks in the same day will be rather difficult. A paved road ends at a parking area. From the parking area, there is a packed dirt road, easily drivable by a sedan, leads into a picnic area at the heart of the valley. After visiting the valley, we returned to US-93 North and drove one or two miles further north to turn (left) into a road toward the rim overlook, called Miller Point Overlook. There are several hiking trails in the park, like a one mile trail leads from the picnic area in the valley to Miller Point. It should be noted that there is no AAA listed lodging in Panaca; actually we do not know whether there is any lodging in Panaca or not. The nearest place that has AAA listed lodgings is Cedar City, Utah, about 80 miles east of Panaca reachable via Route 319 East and then Route 56 East.

During this trip we visited about 19 locations in Nevada, Utah and Arizona. Each location has its own unique rock formations and colors, and Cathedral Gorge is no exception. Some pictures from the valley and from Miller Point are enclosed below. Those pictures were taken from a Panasonic palm camcorder's still picture mode so the resolution is typically like 640 x 480 pixels (about 0.3 mega pixels). Thus the size of those pictures are limited to the actual resolution. Enlarging those pictures will cause the pictures to become blurred.
